(SPOILER) WEAK HERO 1 & 2 KOREAN DRAMA REVIEW

Dear Anime World lovers, thank you for finding this page. I have another interesting review for us today. Yes, it was the most anticipated drama, and I am reviewing seasons 1 and 2 here. Let’s goooo!

Our main character, Yeon Si-eun, portrayed by our very handsome Park Ji-hoon, is a very shy student who just wants to study. He longs for peace and quiet, but there is always someone looking for his attention or trouble. Honestly, when I first watched season 1, I had not seen the manhwa, so I did not know what to expect, but wow. I enjoyed every fighting scene that came with it. The thing about Weak Hero fighting scenes is that they look realistic enough that real-life people can copy them. It’s just knowing the Psychics of the body and how to target one particular place while fighting. Loved it (Don’t fight guys, this is just a show).

Season 1 came with several characters, including 2 best friends for Si-eun, Ahn Su-ho, portrayed by Choi Hyun-wook, and Oh Beom-seok, portrayed by Hong Kyung.  I like the idea of having one character that knows how to fight naturally, Su-ho in this case, and another character, Beom-seok, who needs protection. I believe it balances the triad of friendships each time.

As usual, we have our main antagonists, Jeon Yeong-bin, portrayed by Kim Su-gyeom, who is a violent character who won’t let Si-eun study in peace. Other characters are equally violent, like Jeon Seok-dae, portrayed by Shin Seung-ho (Alchemy of Souls), and a female character, Yeong-I, portrayed by Lee Yeon, who shows viewers that female characters can also be amongst violent groups.

In all high school violent TV shows, I look to the adults to stop it, and as usual, there is always that one adult character who is the true evil. Adults using minors for illegal purposes are the absolute worst. Especially since this happens regularly enough and in the real world. It’s hard enough that students are trying to study, which is not as easy as olden day times, as more events keep adding each day and new students have to remember all, but to have adults use the students in that way is beyond disgusting.

This is similar to Season 2, where, in my opinion, the adults who use these students are the true evil. For anyone who hasn’t watched even season 1, please do as we are about to discuss season 2, and there may be more spoilers from season 1 here. As we must know now, some accidents have happened, and we are hopeful for one of our favorites to get better, but life must go on. Yeon Si-eun is in a new school and gets to meet new friends. As usual, no peace for him to study, and we are introduced to new allies, including Park Hu-min aka Baku portrayed by Ryeoun (Twinkling Watermelon), Seo Jun-tae portrayed by Choi Min-young, and Go Hyun-tak (Gotak) portrayed by Lee Min-Jae.

We also have bullies, including Choi Hyo-man, portrayed by Yoo Su-bin, who is the one character that embodies the concept of violence and bullying in learning environments. A total bully who only cares about himself and no one else. Others include Geum Seong-jae, portrayed by Lee Jun-young (former member of U-KISS), and our main antagonist of the show, Na Baek-jin, portrayed by Bae Na-ra, who are both complicated characters that it’s very hard to hate in my honest opinion. I want to say circumstances led to their actions, but who knows? You will have to watch it to understand.

In conclusion, this show is such a treat and it’s going to leave an effect on viewers no matter what. I hope you enjoyed this review as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Author’s Note: Does anyone see a slight resemblance between Weak Hero and Wind Breaker(anime)? Characters like Yeon Si-eun and Haruka Sakura share a similar cold, calculating vibe, while Baku and Hajime Umemiya both unite their schools through a mix of charisma and sternness. Just something to think about.
